The First Run Series offerings are the Stretcher, an old style throwback flute with a big honker sound. The Branta Max, short for Branta Canedensis Maxima aka the Giant Canada Goose an easy blowing mellow sound. Lastly, the L-Train, a short call with big range. Geared for Lessers as the name implies but fully capable of a wide range of sounds and extremely fast.

The Flying Duck Co. Val is based on the Mondo 2B platform. Leonard was the nephew of famous Illinois River decoy carver Henry Holmes. Val cut his teeth, helping his uncle scrape, repaint, and repair decoys. Leonard is known to have carved some working decoys as well as decorative miniatures. Still, he is best remembered for his stylish duck calls of simple yet elegant design. He made calls until the 1940s. All of his standard-sized calls found to date are banded, with some having a metal sleeve on the inside of the barrel where the insert is fitted. Leonard also made a plastic reed Arkansas-style call. His standard call could be best described as an Art Deco version of the Grubbs standard call. This is the only run of these calls that will be produced.

The Flying Duck Co. Grubbs is based on the Mondo platform. Grubbs is one of the earliest documented commercial call makers. His call design construction influenced many Illinois call makers who followed, including Charles Perdew, Skippy Barto, and Val Leonard. Grubbs is generally credited with making the first banded duck call and creating the classic mouthpiece, which was copied, in one form or another, by a host of callmakers. Grubbs claimed to have made the first duck call for the commercial market in 1868. Still, there is no evidence to support this other than his testimony. The earliest documented mention of a Grubbs duck call is in the 1889-1890 Montgomery catalog. This is the only run of these calls that will be produced.

The Mondo 2B Short The Mondo 2B is a Cut-Down style call designed in the J. Stephens Call Shop. John has always liked the qualities of a “Cut-Down” style call but at first, struggled to operate this style of call. Most cut-downs took a lot of air to operate and didn’t have enough built-in backpressure for his style of calling, so he set out to make a call that had more backpressure and hold. John has always preferred his hunting calls to have a deeper and raspier tone than most typical calls. This provides the ability to get soft on the low end, and still able to bark and push the call on the top when needed. This is how the J. Stephens Axe was born. “ Where we hunt, which is mostly reservoirs at 2 Bayous, the ducks already know where they are going. So I like to have a call that can produce soft clucks, chatter, and ultra-realistic quacks. At the same time, I did not want to lose the ability to break high ducks on migration days with a loud, powerful bark. I lengthened the distance from the cork slot to the end of the stopper, creating more backpressure while lengthening its drill hole and backbore and increasing the diameter in the final bore. This gave me exactly the “Cut Down” style call that fit my style of calling and met my hunting needs”-John Stephens. The Mondo 2B, is RNT’s version of the J.Stephens Axe. Super raspy, deep tone, ultra-realistic quacks, soft clucks, with plenty of punch on top. The “S” stands for “Shorty” we’ve shortened the regular Mondo barrel three-quarters of an inch offering the Mondo 2B in a new short-barreled version. This speeds the air up getting to the reed and effectively reduces the back pressure even more. This maintains the loose bottom end, what you put in, is what you get out along with making it a touch higher pitched… That high pitch raspy sound just may be the key that unlocks a Mondo wad of Mallards high out of a silver blue winters sky.

The Mondo DR is based on the Mondo LA platform. The DR stands for double reed. These calls started as a Mondo LA, but Jim Ronquest took each call and did extensive work to allow the call to run with a double reed set up.

The Callapalooza Event Call is made on the DCX platform. The DCX is a higher octane version of its predecessor. We have slightly turned up the volume, enhanced its aggressive nature while maintaining a perfect balance of backpressure, and while pushing its rasp to an xtreme jaw jarring new level.

The Stuttgart Slugger is made on the DCX platform. The DCX is a higher octane version of its predecessor. We have slightly turned up the volume, enhanced its aggressive nature while maintaining a perfect balance of backpressure, and while pushing its rasp to an xtreme jaw jarring new level.
